Global Warming and Individual Impact. What's My Impact?
Global warming and individual impact. So what's mine? How much energy could I save and how could I cut down on my carbon emissions? Would it be easy?
Say you live in an average household. You turn your lights out when you leave a room but you leave ones on that you use more frequently. You wash your clothes regularly and enjoy a big bath. But hey, you consistently recycle and purchase locally grown or organic foods. So what is this person’s individual impact on global warming?
In the large scale picture this single household will not have a huge impact. However, if that person chose to wash with cold water, switch to energy star appliances, replace commonly used light bulbs with energy safe ones, turn down their heat, move the fridge away from the oven and/or a variety of other changes they could reduce their green house gas emissions by a whopping 40%. And you'd still get to have your big baths.
Now if more households were to make these choices your impact on global warming becomes significant. If thousands more global citizens take the initiative it can save the earth millions of pounds of carbon dioxide every month. That is a significant impact.
Not only would this person be saving energy they could save a significant amount of money in the process. Making these changes would easily save you a couple hundred bucks on your energy bill. However if your looking for a real way to lower your GHG emissions and save cash then a fuel efficient car is a very smart choice.
So the last question to look at is would all this really be that easy? Well in short. Yes. Even if you don't want to put out the money on a new car or replacement appliances you can still make affordable (or free) changes to your life. Global Warming and Individual Impact. Affordable Solutions. 1. Ride a bike. 2. Turn down the thermostat. 3. Move fridges away from heating units.
